Faroe Islands

Alistair here. I took a 3 day trip this week to the Faroe Islands (a self governing part of the Kingdom  of Denmark).  

It was fantastic and the scenery was very impressive.

 

There are only 48,000 people on the entire 18 islands (all but one is inhabited), and over 79,000 sheep.

There are sheep everywhere -

-  including the hotel parking lot.

We visited numerous locations including their Parliament, a hospital, fish processing plant, old churches, rock formations, and even a coal mine:

We took a day trip ferry from the main island of Streymoy to the southernmost Island of Sandoy and saw their spectacular rock formations:

We also had a dinner at Tróndur Patursson’s house. 

He is a Faroese painter, sculptor and glass artist in Kirkubour.

Afterwards there was a tour of an old (1100s) church in the village:

It's kind of hanging on the edge of a reinforced breakwater to keep it from falling into the ocean.

It was a great trip!
